We decided to go on a hike this weekend up in the Mt. Rainer National Forest. We only live about 40 miles from Mt. Rainer and we don't get up there nearly as often as we should. It is becoming easier now though, since the kids are old enough to hike pretty much as far as we want. Plus they LOVE it. So we are going to try and make this more of a routine around here.
It was so beautiful up there this weekend. About 70 to 75 degrees and sunny skies. We went in some areas we had never been before and I think they are prettier that the places we have been going. There were all sorts of pink, purple, yellow, white and red wildflowers all in bloom. It was great. Wish I would have gotten a picture of the flowers but I didn't.
It was so sunny on this patch of snow we could barely see straight. You can see Mt. Rainer in the background and in this photo it looks like a little hill, not a gigantic mountain.
This is called Reflection Lake and I think if you shoot from the other direction and the water is calm you can see Mt. Rainer and then it is perfectly reflected in the water. I told Jason we should come up sometime at dawn just to see if we could get that shot.
Look at this little sweet pea! I think the wildlife have it made up in the park. They aren't too scared of the people, although this little one trotted off after we were about 20 feet away.
Here is mama we think. She was less scared and was only about 10 feet away from us.
This is at our second hiking stop and we saw yet another unafraid deer. They boys thought the deer were so awesome.
I was thinking maybe I could get a Christmas card photo, but all I kept getting were forced smiles...
Besides, I don't know about having Shaun Alexander and Matt Hasselbeck in my Christmas Card photo.

During our hike we had to stop and Sam had to write us a "ticket". He has this play police ticket book and he is in love with it. We got it at a garage sale. He has been giving everyone in the neighborhood tickets for various offenses, like sitting in our grass and riding their bike too fast.
I was ready for a break too though. This hike back up a hill raised 1100 ft. in just 1/2 a mile! Sam only had to be carried for about 5 minutes and the rest of the time both kids walked! We couldn't believe it. I think I was crankier than anyone else...
But it was worth it to get to this amazing little spot with a waterfall in the shade...
