Success!
I have no photos and I feel as if I'm lucky my feet are still attached to my legs, but the fundraiser was a great success!
On Thursday we moved everything into a room at our church and it took that whole day just to sort stuff out and get most of it priced for the rummage sale. Then we made forms for the silent auction, made signs, got the raffles ready, and tried to be ready for Friday.
We had so many people and business donate it was way awesome. Mandy had met a girl through Freecycle and she gave us so much stuff. It was great to see so many people with such giving hearts and to see people who have never even met Caleb or his family willing to give so much was just amazing.
On Friday morning after madly dashing our kids to school we ran down the street to the church. We had another friend unloading this huge amount of tables and things to sell. We rushed to start getting set up and people were already showing up at 8:45 and we didn't open officially until 10:00am. We had to get the stuff out of the church and to the front parking lot (a very busy street) and set up with people milling about and wanting to buy stuff.
So I set up my tent and just started taking money. I don't think we got everything set up until about 10:30. We put on our Caleb t-shirts and had signs with his smiling face on them. I think it really touched a lot of people because they gave so much.
A nice lady went to get change to buy something and she came back with croissants and cookies for us, because she thought what we were doing was so nice. Some people would buy like a few dollars worth of stuff and then just tell us to keep the change. SO AWESOME! We had a donation box that people were just putting money into. Everyone was so positive (except for one guy who about had a fit at our price for a fax machine, but that's beside the point and puts a damper on this nice post so I won't tell you about it) and giving. We had moms helping out with their little kids in tow ALL DAY and the lunch lady at our kids school helped. I was just so proud of everyone.
So, the total for the day was well over $4000! I think by the time we collect all the money for all the auction items it will be more than $4500!
There were things along the way that I would do different next time and we could have been a little more organized, but all in all it was great! It's amazing when you start something, even if you don't know what your starting and if it's for something worthwhile, there will be people who help and it all comes together. Dana, Mandy and I were so worried.... What if no one comes? What if no one donates? What if no one helps us? Good thing God is in control!
A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED AND HELPED!
I know that Caleb's family was so thankful for everyone who helped in any way too. They were there all day on and off giving us mocha's and pizza and encouragement!
Now off to concentrate on The Farm Chicks Antique show! Um, ya, I have to leave on Friday morning for Spokane and I'm sooooo not ready!!! :)
