January is sick month

At our house we are going to change the name of "January" to "Sick Month".

We have all been sick for so long.  Ugh.  With the.... worst.... cold.... in.... history..... :)  Okay, maybe that is a little dramatic, but we are really *over* it.

We are looking forward to February and the end of "Sick Month"!

Glad your family liked the cake Meredith!

Be back soon when we are up to par.....

Grandma's Recipes #1: Banana Cake

Banana_cake_recipe Banana_cakeRecipe:

1 Cup Sugar
1 Cup shortening
(I used a little over 1/4 butter, then the rest applesauce, because I was out of butter and it is still really yummy)
2 eggs
3 large bananas (mashed)
1/2 cup ground walnuts
1 teas. baking powder
1 teas. soda
pinch salt
1 1/4 Cup sifted flour
1 teas. vanilla

Cream together sugar and shortening.  Add eggs, then bananas and nuts.  Sift together flour. baking powder, soda and salt.  Add vanilla.
Bake at 375 for 20-25 minutes.

For me I needed to bake it a little longer and I used a 9x13 galss dish with Pam sprayed in the bottom.

Some of the recipes are funny because they don't give a pan size and sometimes they don't give a temperature or how long to cook.  So I kinda have to guess.

I have made this recipe before and the whole family digs it (without the nuts)!

Weird Fact Wednesday

Our dog...... Lily...... may have....... Bulimia.....

She throws up at least twice a week.  She gets this weird face (we call it the Joker face, I swear that is what it looks like) and you know she is going to throw up.  So I have to race to the nearest exit and get her out.  She is such a good girl and most of the time holds it in (via the Joker face) and then lets it loose out on the lawn...

But tonight no one saw the Joker face, but we did see what came next...

By the way, I never told any of you to eat your breakfast and read my blog.

Anyway, if you ever come to my house and I abruptly bolt out of the room to the back door, now you know why.

Here is a photo of the Bulimic and her master...

Oh My!!  I'm getting old enough to complain about the weather!  It is way too cold here.  But  the good news is that it hasn't rained for a couple of weeks really.

Jason's mom is coming for a visit this weekend and staying for two weeks.  It is supposed to rain/snow for most of next week.

I tell everyone that it doesn't rain all the time here but no one ever believes me because whenever anyone comes it rains.  But the last two weeks  is proof!!  Sunny, cold and beautiful.

Oh well, I guess it keeps the population in check around here.  No one wants to move here because of the rain.... :)

Next thing you know I'll have a once a week post dedicated to my aches and pains.

3rd Place!

BenYesterday Ben got 3rd place in his class at his speech meet.  I'm so proud of my quiet, shy boy!!

He memorized his poem in about 2 days, spending about 15 minutes each day.  I was floored.

I remember thinking when we got the poem, that it would be hard to teach him!  Ha!  Shows how little I know.

He picked a long one too.... And he had to say it up on stage in front of both first grade classes and some teachers and three judges!

Here it is....

Grandfather Frog

Fat green frog sits by the pond,
Big frog, bull frog, grandfather frog.
Croak-Croak-Croak
Shuts his eyes, opens his eyes,
waiting for
a little fat fly.
Croak, croak.
I go walking down by the pond,
I want to see the big green frog.
I want to stare right into his eyes.
Rolling, winking, funny old eyes.
But oh! he hears me coming by.
Croak-Croak-
Splash!

Army Guys

ArmyguysSam's favorite thing to do with his little army guys.

I'm not sure where he got this but he says the green ones are the "American Army" and the tan ones are the "German Army".

Maybe he is playing  ww2.

Ahh, such a healthy and normal thing for a 4 1/2 year old.

Weird Fact (almost) Wednesday....

I have a feeling most of my "Weird Fact" post are going to have Jason's name in the first sentence.   Or be mostly about Jason.   So here we go....

We have lived in Western Washington for over 11 years now.  During that 11 years there is one sentence that I have heard so many times, I would be rich if I a dollar for every time I heard it come out of Jason's mouth.

Here it is- "Boy I wish there was a Taco John's around here...."

Let me give you a little background on my husband.  He is a simple man, with simple tastes.  He can eat the same thing for lunch every day for a year.

One of our biggest issues is that I'm a girl who needs change, loves change, yearns for something new....   Even if it means something as simple as planning a menu.... I can't.... I won't be pigeonholed into a menu!  Please!

!!Give me a dinner planned at 5:00pm or give me death!!   Okay, I digress.  Back to the weird fact...

So every time we go back to Montana we have to stop at Taco Johns and he orders so many Taco Burgers that he *always* makes himself sick eating them all.

There use to be one in Kellogg Idaho, about halfway to Jason's parents house and it was replaced by some other random fast food place about 4 or 5 years ago and every time we drive by it I have to hear muttered obscenities about whatever fast food place has taken the Taco Johns out of Kellogg.

So one day about 2 or 3 years ago my cousin was visiting our area (he lives in Alabama) and he was doing some work on Fort Lewis, which is fairly close to us, so we made a plan for him to come over for dinner.

And I don't know how he does it, but Jason always manages to work "Taco Johns" into a conversation.  I think he was asking if there were any Taco Johns in Alabama.  I think he secretly tucks away this information for future vacation spots.

So my cousin says no there are no Taco Johns in Alabama, but he had it for lunch today.

WHAT!??!!???!!

Jason about has a heart attack.  THERE IS A TACO JOHNS IN WASHINGTON.   Only problem,  it's on the army base....

I think he seriously considered enlisting.

So fast forward about 3 years of whining and wishing and bugging the little neighbor girls (who's dad is in the Air Force and is at the base all the time) about what they had for dinner and if they had Taco Johns today, to about 2 weeks ago...

Sam had been wanting to go to the Fort Lewis Military Museum  (of course), so we went on a Friday afternoon, but had to stop and get a guest pass to get on to the base to see it.  We had no idea you could do this.

So after the museum.....

You know what's coming right?

We found the Taco Johns.  After Jason ran in and got like 3 pounds of Taco Burgers and we started for home, we noticed on the back of the pass that it says visitors are prohibited from going to the PX.  Which is where the Taco John's was.  So we high tailed it off the base at the highest rate of speed we could go without bringing attention to ourselves and our hidden "treasure".

AND after all of that..... it turns out...... the Taco John's at Fort Lewis is not nearly as tasty as the Taco Johns in Montana. :)

Under construction

I was getting tired of the pink and even the tulips, so I'm going to figure out something else for my header in the next day or two...

Just in time

For Valentines Day.......

Passionfruitrose2_2
My new Pay it Forward over at Rose Petal Betty .

Okay, so I know it's Pucker Paste again, but I've been wanting to debut this new flavor, ever since Raspberry Plum went by the wayside. (still heartbroken over that one)

Anyway, I got too busy before Christmas, so HERE IT IS....  Passionfruit Rose!!!

It is a really unique fragrance/flavor, and I mean unique in a good way.  It's a little sweet smelling and fruity with just hints of rose.  I'm usually not a fan of "Rose" scents, but this one is a dandy.  I may even try to make soap out of it I like it so well.

And this is a rare fragrance/flavor oil that you can actually use multiple ways like in Pucker Paste and body products like soap and lotion....

I don't have it up on the site right at this minute but should have it up in a couple hours.  I just couldn't wait to post this little photo .

ETA: It's up on Rose Petal Betty under "Pay it Forward" now.

Yesterday after I met with my tax people, I decided to take a couple hours and stroll through some antique stores and found this perfect teacup!!  Great for Rose Petal Betty, huh?  Actually there were two and I bought them both, the color and pattern are perfect for me....

But because of this post and because I've got a ton of work to do, "Weird Fact Friday" will have to wait.....

I'm sure you are all just so disappointed. :)

Looks like it will have to be "Weird Fact Really Late Friday" or "Weird Fact Saturday Friday". :)

Heading out the door after being home for 39 minutes....
